Power BI Deployment and Governance for the Enterprise -- Register HERE.

As Power BI is becoming more and more prevalent across your organization, are you comfortable with answering questions such as:

  • Where does sensitive data reside, and who has access to it?
  • Are our tenant settings optimal and based on recommended practices?
  • How do report consumers know to trust the data they are viewing?
  • What is our policy for sharing and distributing content internally and externally?
  • How frequently is content published, viewed, and exported, and by whom?
  • How do we reduce inconsistencies, improve author productivity, and reduce the number of redundant datasets?
  • What techniques do we use to ensure compliance and satisfy auditors?
  • In what ways do we minimize risk and deliver content effectively to small, medium, and large audiences?
  • How do we effectively balance the needs of corporate BI and self-service BI ?

Through this full day session, we will follow Payton the Power BI Administrator through a series of problem / solution scenarios to illustrate considerations and possible approaches to each problem. Real-world lessons learned will be shared, and attendee participation is actively encouraged. Demos will be shown throughout the day as well.

Attendees will leave this session with actionable recommendations for effective enterprise-level deployments and governance.

Scope: This session primarily focuses on governing and managing the Power BI Service. Power BI Report Server and Power BI Embedded will not receive significant attention. Power BI authoring and development skills (such as data modeling and DAX) will not be covered in this session.

Target audience: Technical professionals responsible for overseeing a Power BI deployment. This session is also suitable for business or other IT professionals who need to collaborate with a Power BI administrator, and want to become more familiar with what's involved in effectively managing and governing a Power BI implementation.

Level: 200

Prerequisites: To get the most out of this session, basic familiarity with Power BI is recommended as we will not spend significant time on fundamentals.

Hands-On Labs: Since this type of content requires administrative permissions in a Power BI tenant, hands-on labs are not included as part of this session. However, attendees are welcome to bring a laptop and follow along during the demonstrations within their own Power BI subscription.

This one-day training session is provided by Melissa Coates, owner of Coates Data Strategies and Microsoft Data Platform MVP. Melissa has worked with customers on implementing Power BI since the product was originally created, and has co-authored two whitepapers for Microsoft including "Planning a Power BI Enterprise Deployment." Melissa's background includes data warehousing and data lakes, and she has a special interest in data architecture planning including where Power BI fits within an organization's broader business intelligence and analytics objectives.
